Nagaland: Kohima Reports 1,040 Cases Under Liquor Prohibition Act In Last Financial Year

The Excise Department in Kohima registered 1,040 cases under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act during the last financial year. Presenting an overview of the department’s activities at the Kohima District Planning and Development Board meeting on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Zonal) Venezolu Dawhuo said the department seized over 1.7 kilograms of heroin and 9,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.

This included a major haul of 1.6 kilograms of heroin at Khuzama Check Gate in September last year.

Between January 2024 and June 2025, the department collected fines exceeding ₹11 lakh. Additionally, 53 temporary liquor permits were issued during last year’s Hornbill Festival.
