Kohima, May 17: Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak emphasised that language is a vital pillar of tribal identity, underscoring its role in preserving culture and heritage. She made the statement while releasing the book A Descriptive Grammar of Konyak Language in Mon.
Konyak noted that as a tribal society, it is essential to uphold and safeguard one’s identity, with language being a primary means of communication and cultural continuity. She highlighted that Naga traditions, largely passed down orally, are now being documented through the efforts of the younger generation and scholars.
The book, co-authored by Prof. Pangersenla Walling and Research Scholar Nikay Besa, is a collaborative effort of the Department of Linguistics, Nagaland University, and the Konyak Literature Board, with support from the Konyak Union, Mon HQ.
