Nagaland Records 41.06% Voter Turnout Till 11 AM In Assembly Bypolls

Nagaland’s Koridang constituency recorded the highest voter turnout in the ongoing Assembly bypolls, with 41.06% of registered voters casting their ballots as of 11 AM, according to Election Commission data. Tripura’s Dharmanagar followed with a turnout of 33.51%.

In Karnataka, polling picked up pace later in the morning, with Bagalkot reaching 27.83% the state’s highest and Davanagere South at 22.01%. Earlier at 9 AM, turnout stood at 19.80% in Koridang, 15.63% in Dharmanagar, 11.87% in Bagalkot, and 9.01% in Davanagere South.

Polling began at 7 AM across the four constituencies. These seats fell vacant following the deaths of BJP’s Imkong L Imchen (Koridang), Tripura Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen (Dharmanagar), Congress’s HY Meti (Bagalkot), and Shamanur Shivashankarappa (Davanagere South).

Key contests include:

Koridang (ST): Congress’s T Chalukumba AO vs. BJP’s Daochier I Imchen, son of the late Imkong L Imchen.

Dharmanagar: BJP’s Jahar Chakraborti vs. Congress’s Chayan Bhattacharjee and CPI(M)’s Amitabha Datta.

Bagalkot: Congress’s Umesh Meti, son of the late HY Meti, vs. BJP’s Veerabhadrayya Charantimath.

Davanagere South: Congress’s Samarth Mallikarjun, son of Minister SS Mallikarjun, vs. BJP’s Srinivas T Dasakariyappa.

Meanwhile, the bypoll in Goa’s Ponda constituency was cancelled by the Bombay High Court. Results for all ongoing bypolls, including those in Gujarat and Maharashtra scheduled for April 23, are expected to be declared on May 4.
