Kohima, Oct 31: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has reiterated its commitment to an honourable and acceptable solution to the Naga political issue, even if it means stepping down from power. NPF secretary-general and MLA Achumbemo Kikon made the statement during the oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed party functionaries and central committee members held in Kohima on Friday.

Kikon said the NPF’s dedication has always been to the aspirations of the Naga people rather than political ambition. “Our commitment has not changed. The NPF will always be ready to surrender power for an honourable settlement that ensures unity and lasting peace among all Nagas,” he stated.

He praised NPF president and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his leadership in achieving the NPF–NDPP merger, calling it a historic step toward uniting Nagas under one political platform. According to Kikon, the merger represents both political and emotional unity among like-minded Naga leaders.

Recalling his experience in New Delhi, Kikon said the party faced procedural challenges while submitting the merger documents to the Election Commission but managed to complete the process within the deadline. “Our resolve was tested, but we did not give up. That demonstrates the spirit that defines the NPF,” he remarked.

Urging members to maintain discipline, loyalty, and unity, Kikon said the party must remain guided by collective decisions and not by individual interests. He reminded members that the NPF’s motto, “Fide Non Armis” (By faith, not by arms), reflects its belief in peaceful and democratic means to achieve the Naga people’s goals.

“The NPF was built on faith, not fortune. Its foundation is trust, conviction, and vision,” Kikon added, encouraging members to spread the party’s message to every village and community.

He further stated that while the NPF may not be large in numbers, it bears the responsibility of representing the collective voice of the Naga people.

NPF working presidents Ahovi Zhimomi and H Chuiba Chang also addressed the gathering, urging members to uphold party values and unity.

More than 400 new members were inducted into various party wings following the formal NPF–NDPP merger on October 21. The oath was administered by working president Pusazo Luruo, while former state chaplain Rev Yamyep Konyak led the prayers.
