A total of 4,464.64 kilograms of single-use plastic carry bags, seized from various markets across Imphal since April 19, 2025, are being transported for recycling to an authorized facility in Meghalaya.

The seizure operation was conducted by a joint team comprising officials from the Imphal Municipal Corporation, Manipur Pollution Control Board, Department of Environment and Climate Change, and the Manipur Police.

The seized plastic is being sent to the recycling unit of Kakarania Innovative Systems Pvt. Ltd., located in Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi district, under strict compliance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules. The transportation is being carried out via National Highway 2 (NH-2).

M/S Ashok Traders of Tentha Marongband, Thoubal, has been designated to hand over the seized plastics to the EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) registered firm for proper recycling as per CPCB guidelines. Prior to dispatch, the plastic bags were pierced with iron rods to prevent any possible reuse or resale.

Authorities have urged the public to stop using single-use plastics and adopt eco-friendly alternatives for packaging and carrying goods.
