A 21-member team from Sikkim has secured a remarkable haul of 22 medals including 9 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze at the 42nd National Arm Wrestling Championship 2025 held in Guwahati, Assam. The team represented the United Arm Wrestling Association of Sikkim.
Seven of the athletes are from Ravangla in Namchi District, adding to the pride of the region. The championship brought national recognition to the state’s emerging strength in arm wrestling.
Gold Medal Winners: Lhendup Dorje Bhutia, Phu Tshering Bhutia, Roland Lepcha, Ranam Lepcha, Sharap Dorje Gurung, Namdu Bhutia, Amit Neopane and Pandey Lamu Rai (won two gold medals in both Right and Left Hand categories)
Silver Medal Winners: Chandan Kumar Chettri, Sharap Dorje Gurung, Roland Lepcha, Dil Bhadur Bhujel and Sushma Rai
Bronze Medal Winners: Phu Tshering Bhutia, Ongdup Tamang, Bhajen Gurung, Ranam Lepcha, Dil Bhadur Bhujel, Chad Maya Pradhan, Nirmala Limboo and Gauri Maya Pradhan
The team credited their success to consistent hard work, discipline, and support from the state government. They also extended special thanks to the Chief Minister of Sikkim for his continuous encouragement and promotion of sports, particularly arm wrestling.
The Office of the Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Namchi District, congratulated all the medalists, coaches, and the United Arm Wrestling Association of Sikkim for the outstanding achievement.
