Agartala, November 6, 2025: Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Tripura government, accusing it of delaying the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and the long-pending village committee elections.

Speaking to reporters in Agartala, Debbarma asserted that the interests and future of the tribal communities far outweigh any political ambition or party agenda. “The government is showing no urgency in fulfilling its promises. If there were no issues, why did we have to approach the Supreme Court? Why weren’t the village committee elections held earlier?” he questioned.

Debbarma criticized the government’s inertia, noting that the last village council elections were held in 2016. “Now it’s almost 2026. Is this democracy? If the government truly wanted elections, they could have been held long ago,” he said, adding that the Supreme Court will hear the matter on Monday after rejecting the state’s plea for more time.

Highlighting a broader vision, Debbarma called for a united tribal front across the Northeast. “We’ve always spoken from separate platforms Tiprasa, Naga, Mizo, Manipuri, Dimasa, but never together in Delhi as indigenous peoples. Now, Tiprasas are not alone. Nagas, Mizos, Arunachalis, Manipuris, and Dimasas stand with us. This is the beginning of Northeast unity, North East Thansa,” he declared.

Reaffirming his commitment to the people over politics, Debbarma said, “My only brand is the people. There is no brand greater than the future of our communities. I haven’t fallen for any political brand — I’ve fallen for my people. The interests of my land, my people, and the entire Northeast are my brand.”

On the Tiprasa Accord, Debbarma confirmed that he will soon meet the Chief Minister to discuss its implementation. “The future of the Tiprasa people is more important than the future of BJP, Tipra Motha, CPM, or Congress,” he emphasized.
