Agartala, August 2, 2024: A wave of frustration and anger swept in front of Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala city as a group of unemployed youths staged a protest against the issuance of fake certificates on Friday. The protesters primarily from Tripura claimed that fake Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificates (PRTC) were being sold for Rs 1 to 2 lakh allowing Uttar Pradesh and Bihar youths to unfairly secure jobs in Tripura.

“Every year, youths from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar come to Tripura and secure jobs by purchasing fake PRTC certificates. This year, they are using the same crooked methods for the SSC GD exam, which affects the job prospects of local unemployed youths,” said one of the protestors.

The protestors accused corrupt brokers and officials of facilitating this fraudulent activity. They alleged that these brokers, possibly with connections to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, were issuing fake certificates for significant sums of money. “It’s a well-organized racket. Bangladeshi citizens are also reportedly entering India illegally and obtaining fake certificates through these brokers,” another protestor added.

In response to the protests, the East Agartala police swiftly arrived at the scene and assured the demonstrators that the issue would be investigated. This assurance led to the temporary withdrawal of the protest. However, the protestors warned that they would escalate their actions if immediate measures were not taken.

“This isn’t just about a few fake certificates,” a protestor explained. “It’s about the future of our youth. If the government does not take strict action against these illegal activities, we will be forced to launch a larger movement.”

The allegations highlight a critical issue of unemployment and corruption in Tripura, with fake certificates undermining the job prospects of local youths. A thorough investigation could potentially expose the extent of the racket and bring the culprits to justice, ensuring that job opportunities are rightfully secured by deserving candidates.
