Retired IPS Officer C.Lalthanmawia Assumes Charge As Mizoram Ombudsman

Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), administered the oath of office to C.Lalthanmawia, IPS (Rtd), as the Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) for Mizoram, during a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, on Friday.

The swearing-in ceremony began with the Chief Secretary, H.Lalengmawia, reading out the official notification of C.Lalthanmawia’s appointment as Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) by the Governor. Following this, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh administered the oath of office to C.Lalthanmawia.

The ceremony was attended by UD&PA Minister K.Sapdanga, AH&Vety Minister C.Lalsawivunga, EF&CC Minister Lalthansanga, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, and Leader of the Opposition Lalchhhandama Ralte, among other dignitaries.

C.Lalthanmawia, IPS (Rtd), was born on 12 February 1965 and holds BA and LLB degrees. He began his career in 1989 with the Mizoram Police Service and was later inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS), AGMUT Cadre (Mizoram Segment), in 2022. During his career, he held several key positions under the Government of Mizoram, including Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Mizoram; Assistant Inspector General of Police (Police Modernization), PHQ, Aizawl; Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Southern Range, Lunglei; and DIGP, Northern Range, Aizawl.

For his contributions to public service, C.Lalthanmawia was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2012 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2020. He retired from active duty on 28 February 2025 while serving as DIGP, Northern Range, Mizoram, and currently resides with his family in Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl.
