Rs. 1.62 Lakh Crore for Agriculture, Rs. 32,214 Crore for Renewables in Union Budget: Tripura Minister Ratan Lal Nath

Agartala, February 04, 2026: Tripura’s Power, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday described the Union Budget 2026–27 as a “progressive and inclusive” financial roadmap and termed it the first integrated step towards achieving the vision of a Developed India by 2047.

Addressing the media here, Nath said the total outlay of the Union Budget stands at Rs. 53.50 lakh crore, marking an increase of Rs. 3.90 lakh crore compared to the previous financial year. He noted that the budget has been framed by keeping in view the aspirations and requirements of people from all sections of society.

Highlighting the key focus areas, the minister said the budget lays strong emphasis on boosting per capita income, accelerating GDP and export growth, enhancing production, reducing unemployment through job creation, alleviating poverty, increasing women’s participation in the workforce, expanding road and rail infrastructure, strengthening e-governance, promoting renewable energy, and enforcing strict measures against corruption. He added that achieving these objectives would require collective participation from the government, society and citizens.

Nath said national security has been accorded top priority, with a substantial allocation of Rs. 7.85 lakh crore for the defence sector. He underlined that safeguarding the nation remains paramount.

Infrastructure development has also received special attention in the budget, he said. Referring to women-centric initiatives, the minister pointed out that a plan has been proposed to construct 700 girls’ hostels across 700 districts, describing it as a concrete step towards women’s empowerment and a practical reflection of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative. He also noted a significant increase in allocations for the health sector.

In the agriculture sector, Nath said all ongoing schemes have been continued, with added emphasis on food processing. An allocation of Rs. 1.62 lakh crore has been earmarked for agriculture. He further informed that renewable energy has seen a major boost, with Rs. 32,214 crore allocated to the sector in the Union Budget 2026–27.
