Prem Singh Tamang on Monday attended the valedictory ceremony of a Yoga Teacher Training Course at Manan Kendra, where 825 trainees from schools across the state were recognized for completing the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Tamang referred to the role of yoga in addressing mental health challenges in the modern era. He stated that while technological advancements have improved convenience, they have also contributed to rising mental health concerns, and described yoga as a method to promote balance and well-being.

The event was organised around the theme “Yoga for Mental Health.” The Chief Minister extended greetings to participants and congratulated the trainees on completing the course.

He explained that the term yoga originates from the Sanskrit word “Yuj,” meaning union, referring to the integration of body, mind, and spirit. He also mentioned the global recognition of the International Day of Yoga, initiated by Narendra Modi.

Tamang said the programme aimed at supporting students through trained yoga teachers and encouraged participants to apply their training in educational institutions.

He further stated that the state government is working towards making Sikkim fully literate by 2027 and added that efforts are being made to position the state as a leading centre of education in the country.
