Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has mandated that all discos and pubs in the state close by 11 PM, warning of strict penalties, including license cancellations, for any violations. The move comes amid growing concerns over public safety, following a surge in late-night accidents, some of which have been fatal.

In his statement, CM Tamang referenced the tragic loss of lives, including four police officers, due to late-night incidents, such as drunk driving. He emphasized that the new curfew aims to curb such accidents and safeguard the public.

CM Tamang also stressed the need to balance modern entertainment with the preservation of Sikkim’s cultural traditions. “We can enjoy life through discos and pubs, but it must be done in moderation,” he said.

The Chief Minister has directed the newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP), IPS Akshay Sachdeva, to strictly enforce the 11 PM curfew. He warned that severe consequences will follow for both venue owners and local law enforcement officers who fail to comply with the new directive.

Additionally, CM Tamang expressed his appreciation for outgoing DGP AK Singh for his contributions to maintaining law and order in Sikkim.
