Agartala, December 24, 2025: The 20th Regional Saras Fair at Tripura’s International Fairground, Hapania in Agartala city has turned into a showcase of rural innovation, with beneficiaries of the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) “ARKANEER” presenting their success stories powered by the Solar Hybrid Dryer under the SUNIL Project, funded by the SEED Division of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Two self-help groups Om Nama Shivay SHG (Chankhala, Dukli RD Block) and Maa Durga Mahila Mashla NFC Group (East Gandhigram, Bamutia RD Block) have set up vibrant stalls offering a range of organic spices including turmeric, chilli, cumin, coriander, and rice powders. Supported by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), their stalls are drawing large crowds and enthusiastic buyers.

Rita Deb, Secretary of Om Nama Shivay SHG, said their stall is witnessing a daily rush of customers, with organic spice powders emerging as the most popular items. She added that the group regularly uses the Solar Hybrid Dryer and remains in touch with NBIRT’s SUNIL project team to obtain another unit.

Meanwhile, Tumpa Das, President of Maa Durga Mahila Mashla NFC Group, mentioned that their stall is selling large quantities of rice powder, cumin, and garam masala powder. She invited visitors to explore their products and pointed out that the fair will continue until December 26, 2025.

The Solar Hybrid Dryer, an innovative technology pioneered by Prof. (Dr.) Shantipada Gon Choudhuri, Eminent Scientist and President of NBIRT, has empowered rural SHGs to preserve and process spices more efficiently, ensuring higher quality and market appeal.
