The Assam Rifles recovered opium worth ₹2.52 crore along with cash in both Myanmarese and Indian currencies during an operation in Manipur’s Chandel district, the force said on Sunday.
The operation was conducted on July 16 near a check post in Sajik Tampak, based on specific intelligence. During the search, two motorcycles abandoned by suspects were inspected, leading to the recovery of 50.5 kg of opium.
Additionally, ₹2 lakh in Indian currency and 1.24 crore Myanmar Kyat were seized, the Assam Rifles said.
The seized items were handed over to the Chakpikarong Police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
