Tributes Pour In For BSF Martyr Deepak Chingakham; Manipur Government Announces Rs. 10 Lakh Ex Gratia

The mortal remains of BSF Constable (General Duty) Deepak Chingakham of the 7th Battalion, who was martyred in a drone attack at Kharkhola Border Outpost (BOP) on May 10, arrived in Imphal today to a solemn and emotional reception.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, where Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Members of Parliament, senior security officials, and state dignitaries gathered to pay their final respects. The tricolour-draped coffin was received with full military honours, reflecting the nation’s gratitude for the 25-year-old soldier’s supreme sacrifice.

Constable Chingakham, a native of Yairipok Yambem in Imphal East, was killed in action while defending the nation during an escalation along the Indo-Pak border. According to BSF officials, he had recently played a crucial role in neutralising a Pakistani post before a fatal drone strike claimed his life.

As a tribute to his bravery, the Manipur Government has announced Rs. 10 lakh as ex gratia to the martyr’s family under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) Scheme. The government also pledged continued support to the bereaved family.

Earlier in the day, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh visited the martyr’s home and offered condolences. “His quiet courage and unwavering sense of duty will be remembered forever. The pride and love his family holds for him are deeply moving,” Singh said.

Constable Deepak Chingakham’s sacrifice has left a lasting impact on Manipur and the nation. His legacy of courage, dedication, and patriotism will remain etched in the hearts of a grateful people.
