Agartala, April 19, 2025: In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, police from Churaibari police station seized 345 kilograms of dried cannabis from a truck at the Naka point on National Highway No. 8 at Churaibari. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle and arrested the driver.
“The raid was conducted based on credible information that a large consignment of cannabis was being transported through the national highway. Our team set up surveillance at the Naka point and intercepted the truck bearing registration number TR01AQ-1516,” said a senior officer of Churaibari police station.
During the search, authorities recovered 69 packets of dried cannabis, weighing a total of 345 kg. The market value of the seized contraband is estimated at Rs 1.03 crore.
The arrested driver has been identified as Monita Mohan Jamatia, a resident of Khamar Bari in Teliamura under Khowai district. “We have taken the driver into custody and further investigation is underway to trace the source and destination of the consignment,” added the official.
