Agartala, May 27, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has directed Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha to initiate a formal inquiry into allegations raised by Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma.
The move follows claims made by Pradyot that the district magistrate repeatedly ignored his requests for a meeting despite several attempts over the past month. The directive for investigation was issued after Chief Minister Saha returned to Tripura from a visit to Delhi.
Confirming the development, a senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office said, “The Chief Minister has taken the matter seriously and has asked the Chief Secretary to investigate the complaint and submit a report.”
The controversy surfaced on Sunday evening when Pradyot spoke to reporters, accusing DM Chakma of avoiding his outreach. “I came here for official matters concerning Gomati district and have been trying to reach out to the DM for over a month. He hasn’t responded to my calls or made any effort to meet me,” Pradyot alleged. “If an elected leader or a political representative is denied a meeting, what else is left to do?” he asked.
The incident has sparked fresh political debate in the state, particularly in light of Tipra Motha’s continued emphasis on tribal rights and administrative responsiveness. Pradyot’s remarks have intensified scrutiny of bureaucratic conduct and governance transparency in the region, placing added pressure on the state administration to act.
