Agartala, April 27, 2026: Tripura has taken a significant step towards modernising its data collection system, with a state-level workshop in Agartala on Monday setting the groundwork for the upcoming Census 2027. The initiative signals a shift to a completely digital enumeration process, aimed at improving the accuracy, speed, and transparency of the nationwide exercise.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Directorate of Census Operations, Tripura, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Tripura, bringing together key administrative stakeholders to streamline the upcoming exercise.

Senior officials, including Ratan Biswas and Subhash Dasgupta, were present alongside District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and other officers from across the state.

According to officials, nearly 11,000 enumerators will be deployed for the census, which will be conducted entirely through digital platforms—a first for the state. The initial phase, focusing on house listing and the housing census, is scheduled from July 17 to July 31, followed by the main population enumeration from August 1 to August 30, covering a total of 45 days.

Deliberations during the workshop focused on operational strategy, digital tools, and potential field-level challenges. Key discussions included the use of CMMS dashboards, HLBC systems, and mobile applications to enable real-time monitoring and self-enumeration. Authorities also reviewed training timelines, recruitment processes, fund allocation, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure seamless execution.

Officials underlined that the digital-first approach is expected to significantly improve accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in data collection. The Census 2027 exercise is anticipated to generate crucial insights into housing, infrastructure, and demographic trends, serving as a vital foundation for future policy planning in Tripura as well as at the national level.
