Agartala, September 8, 2025: Unakoti district has been reeling from the aftermath of a sudden embankment breach in Radhanagar Panchayat, triggered by two days of heavy rainfall. The collapse of the local stream’s embankment has left large swathes of farmland submerged, destroying standing crops and pushing several farmers into deep distress.

On Monday, Scheduled Caste Welfare minister Sudhangshu Das visited the affected site to take stock of the situation. He was accompanied by senior officials from the Executive Water Resources Department, Agriculture Department and representatives of the local Panchayat. The team conducted a ground assessment to measure the extent of crop loss and discuss immediate remedial steps.

Expressing grave concern over the plight of farmers, the minister directed officials to move quickly with coordinated action plans. He stressed the urgency of repairing the embankment, ensuring proper flood protection, and extending relief to the affected agricultural community.
With the minister’s intervention setting the tone, authorities have been tasked with expediting repair work and relief operations. Farmers, however, await concrete measures to safeguard their livelihoods as the damage continues to mount in the waterlogged fields.
