Agartala, January 5, 2026: Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday inspected the Center of Excellence for Vegetables at Birchandra Manu in South District, reaffirming the state’s focus on innovation-driven agriculture.

During the visit, Nath noted that India currently operates 60 Centers of Excellence, with Tripura hosting two, one at Jumerdhepa in Sepahijala District and another at Birchandra Manu.

The Birchandra Manu facility, he explained, serves as a collaborative hub where Israeli and Indian technologies are applied to produce high-quality vegetable seedlings year-round. In addition to seedling production, the center cultivates diverse vegetable varieties using advanced farming techniques.

Highlighting the adoption of soil-less cultivation technology, Nath described the innovation as “truly commendable,” stressing that such practices will boost productivity and set new standards for sustainable agriculture in the state.

Expressing confidence in the initiative, the Minister said, “I firmly believe that the Center of Excellence for Vegetables will open a new horizon in vegetable cultivation and agricultural development in Tripura.”

The visit, officials said, aligns with the government’s broader vision to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, promote modern techniques, and equip farmers with improved resources for long-term growth.
