Agartala, October 31, 2025: In a move to further strengthen welfare initiatives for Scheduled Caste communities in Tripura, Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting at the Sonartari State Guest House here.

The meeting brought together chairpersons of various sub-committees and senior departmental officials to assess progress on Central and State schemes aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of SC families across the state.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Das noted that the review was the first in a series planned to streamline coordination between sub-committees. “We must adopt a positive and result-oriented strategy to ensure every scheme reaches the grassroots. Our priority is to continue improving the social and economic status of Scheduled Caste communities,” he said.

Tripura currently operates sub-committees under the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils, six nagar panchayats and 55 RD blocks, overseeing six Central and 14 State-run programmes for SC development.

Highlighting progress in education, officials informed that 9,728 SC students from Classes VI to VIII were awarded Pre-Matric Scholarships in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Additionally, 32 SC-dominated villages have been chosen under the PM-AJAY scheme to be developed as Model Villages.

To boost academic performance, 116 teachers across 31 hostels are providing coaching in English, Mathematics and Science to SC students.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Das reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth. “Our mission is to ensure that benefits of every welfare initiative reach the intended beneficiaries, empowering SC communities and building a stronger, more equitable Tripura,” he added.
