Agartala, February 03, 2026: Tripura’s Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee on Tuesday raised the issue of poor conditions on several key national highways in the state during proceedings in the Upper House. Highlighting the state of NH-8 (Mungiyakami–Ambasa), NH-108B, NH-208B and NH-208A, he pointed to maintenance gaps, damaged stretches and severe travel difficulties, urging the government to take immediate steps for repair and improvement.
Bhattacharjee noted that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, Tripura and the entire North-East have witnessed unprecedented progress in connectivity. He said Tripura has benefited from eight national highways under the Prime Minister’s initiative, which have played a vital role in the state’s socio-economic development. While construction work is ongoing on three highways and six have already been completed, he stressed that several routes remain in poor condition, causing hardship for commuters.
He further explained that broken road sections, lack of upkeep, and waterlogging during monsoons have created serious obstacles for daily travel, goods transport, and emergency services. Drawing attention to these challenges, he demanded swift intervention from the concerned departments.
The MP also appealed for additional budgetary allocations to ensure proper development and maintenance of national highways in Tripura. He cautioned that without adequate funding, connectivity in hilly and border states like Tripura would suffer setbacks.
Concluding his remarks, Bhattacharjee expressed hope that the central government would take positive measures to resolve the problems and extend necessary financial support for the state’s road infrastructure.
