Agartala, December 21, 2022: Acting on tip-off, Tripura police nabbed two youths with a good quantity of narcotic substances from Agartala city on the night of Wednesday last.
Speaking to media persons about the successful anti-drug operation, SDPO of Sadar sub-division in West Tripura district Ajay Kumar Das said “The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of East Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee received a secret information about movement of drug peddlers at MaharajGanj Bazar, one of the biggest markets in Agartala city. Accordingly, OC informed MG Bazar out post about a suspicious Maruti Suzuki Ignis vehicle.”
“MG Bazar outpost’s OC Inspector Apu Das and SI KK Kalai stopped the vehicle and searched. A total of 22 grams of heroin and cash of Rs 22,500 were seized from the possession of Pijush Das of Sadhu Tilla and Prasenjit Dey of Katashala areas under Sadar sub-division”, he added.
The senior police official said that the accused drug peddlers tried to escape, but police personnel managed to trap them. Along with narcotic substances and cash, 400 empty vials were also recovered from their possession. On Thursday, the duo arrestees were forward to the court and demanded a police remand.
SDPO Das also warned the drug peddlers and smugglers of initiating strictest action against them in the coming days. He also warned the youths to leave this path and join hands to clear the society from the clutches of narcotic substances.
“In the coming days, such anti-drug campaigns will continue extensively and the kingpin will be behind the bars”, he claimed.
