The council of ministers under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday afternoon gave their approval to engage retired civil servants and judicial officers for accelerating the procedure of departmental proceedings piled up for several years.

In a press conference at Civil Secretariat in Agartala city on Tuesday evening, cabinet spokesperson and ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that this decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting today to decrease the number of cases pending across the state.

“For timely completion of departmental inquiries pending for many years, the cabinet approved to appoint retired IAS, Tripura Civil Service (TCS) and Tripura Judicial Service (TJS) officers”, he added.

Chowdhury further added, “If the retired officers submit the report within a span of three months, they will be entitled to get a one-time honorarium of Rs 15,000 for IAS officers and Rs 10,000 for state officers”.

He further clarified that the financial benefits would be awarded based on cases.

“A committee chaired by the Tripura’s Law Secretary will make the recommendation for the appointments of retired officers. Principal Secretary of the Administrative Reforms and Additional Secretary of the department shall also be the part of the committee” – suggested Chowdhury.

Replying to a query regarding the number of cases, the cabinet spokesperson said that the total number of departmental proceedings pending would be a few hundred.
