Agartala, April 28, 2026: In response to the rising number of patients suffering from kidney disease and renal failure, a Special Arteriovenous (AV) Fistula Surgical Camp was successfully conducted at Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital. The camp, held from April 22 to April 26, 2026, marked a significant step toward strengthening dialysis-related healthcare services in the state.

AV fistula creation is a critical procedure for patients dependent on dialysis. However, due to the shortage of trained specialists, many patients in the state had previously been deprived of timely access to this essential treatment. Addressing this gap, the initiative was undertaken under the guidance of Chief Minister Manik Saha.

The camp was organized in collaboration with expert doctors from Shija Hospitals. A total of 105 patients were registered after thorough screening. Among them, selected patients underwent AV fistula surgery in phases. Surgeries were successfully performed on 12 patients on April 23, 12 patients on April 24, and additional procedures were carried out on April 25, significantly benefiting those in urgent need of dialysis access.

The medical team included specialists from AGMC and GBP Hospital—Dr. Nilotpal Dey (Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Manash Gop (Nephrologist), and Dr. Mukut Debnath (Urologist). They were joined by experts from Shija Hospitals, including Dr. Michael Leightonjam and Dr. Indranil Dutta (Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons), Dr. Prashant Kumar (DNB Plastic Surgery), and OT Technician Som Chand Oinam. The team was further supported by OT nurses, floor nurses, and technicians from GBP Hospital.

This initiative is expected to significantly enhance access to advanced treatment for dialysis patients in the state, while reducing the need for referrals outside Tripura—thereby saving both time and financial burden for patients and their families.

Officials stated that, under the continued efforts of the Chief Minister, such specialized medical camps are likely to be organized regularly in the future. AGMC and GBP Hospital reaffirmed their commitment to delivering advanced, accessible, and patient-centric healthcare services across the state.
