Agartala, May 15, 2025: In a significant move towards improving electricity services, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday announced that the Tripura government is working to adopt new technology that will allow electricity line repairs without disrupting the power supply.

The minister made the statement after chairing a high-level review meeting of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), focused on preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.

“Preparations usually begin before Durga Puja to ensure uninterrupted power during the festivities. Despite flood disruptions, our officials worked tirelessly. Now, with the monsoon underway, we have reviewed operations at all levels up to the Senior Manager rank,” Nath said.

He added that the meeting assessed how many damaged electric pillars have been replaced, wires cleaned, and new lines installed. “We’ve also issued instructions for daily alerts and timely response during the monsoon to prevent outages,” the minister said, emphasizing that new technology to facilitate live-line maintenance is in the pipeline.

Highlighting improvements in the state’s power sector, Nath praised the dedication of field workers and electricians. “Massive changes have taken place. Our staff are working day and night to maintain supply,” he noted.

However, the minister raised concern over electricity bill payments in Agartala, revealing that only about 70% of consumers have cleared their dues.

In a decisive move, the minister announced that all leaves for departmental staff are cancelled during May and June, the peak monsoon months, except in serious medical emergencies. “Uninterrupted electricity is our top priority. We must all join hands in this effort,” Nath stressed. He also hinted at post-monsoon incentives for staff in recognition of their commitment.
