Agartala, June 04, 2026: Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has strongly countered Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s recent claim that the CPI(M) would be reduced to zero seats in the 2028 Assembly elections, asserting that the Left party would continue its struggle for the people irrespective of electoral outcomes.
Addressing the issue, Sarkar remarked that if people’s voting rights are taken away, then any outcome becomes possible, including the CPI(M) ending up with no seats. However, he maintained that if elections are conducted in a free, fair, and democratic atmosphere where citizens can exercise their franchise without fear or obstruction, the future verdict of the people would speak for itself.
The veteran CPI(M) leader said that the party’s commitment to public welfare, democratic values, and constitutional rights does not depend on whether it is in power. He stressed that even if the party’s representation in the Assembly declines, the CPI(M) will not retreat from the field of struggle and will continue to lead movements concerning the rights, livelihood, and welfare of common people.
Sarkar further stated that the fight to protect democracy and constitutional rights would continue with greater determination in the coming days. He alleged that opposition political parties, both at the national and state levels, are facing various forms of pressure and that efforts are being made to influence democratic institutions.
In view of these developments, the former Chief Minister called for strengthening democratic movements and intensifying efforts to safeguard the rights of citizens and preserve democratic values across the country. He reiterated that the CPI(M) would remain steadfast in its commitment to defending people’s interests regardless of electoral fortunes.
