Agartala, May 05, 2026: The Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Department of Tribal Welfare, is transforming livelihoods across tribal regions of Tripura. A shining example of this success is unfolding in Ompi RD Block of Gomati district, where remarkable progress has been achieved despite limited manpower and resources.

Led by Block Project Manager Sushmita Saha, a team of just four staff members has demonstrated that determination and focused effort can overcome constraints. Their work has resulted in the formation of 100 Producer Groups (PGs)—32 in agriculture, 32 in fisheries, and 36 in livestock.

Of these, 87 PGs have received financial support, including approximately Rs 5.22 crore in working capital at a nominal 3% interest rate and Rs 43.50 lakh in establishment grants. Today, 70 PGs are fully operational, driving growth in the rural economy and inspiring neighboring communities.

One standout achievement comes from the Chasanai Producer Group in Baishyamani VC, which harvested over 36,000 kg of pumpkin in a single season. By adopting scientific farming methods and collective effort, the group has set a benchmark for productivity and profitability, motivating other villages to replicate their success.

Equally significant is the empowerment of tribal women. No longer confined to supporting roles, they have emerged as leaders of economic change, gaining confidence, self-reliance, and enhanced social standing.

The Ompi RD Block story underscores a powerful lesson: success is not defined by resources but by sincerity, dedication, and teamwork. TRESP’s model proves that sustainable development and brighter futures are achievable even in remote tribal regions.

Currently, TRESP is being implemented across 23 blocks in eight districts of Tripura, reinforcing the state’s commitment to inclusive growth and tribal welfare.
