Agartala, April 13, 2026: The elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) concluded on Monday with an impressive voter turnout of around 83 per cent, even as a few sporadic incidents were reported from different parts of the state.
According to Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Anurag Sen, polling, which began at 7 AM, ended at 5 PM across all constituencies. He stated that the final voter turnout figure may see a marginal rise after complete data compilation.
Describing the overall process as largely peaceful, Sen said that no major incidents of violence were reported. “Polling was conducted smoothly across the state. Though a few complaints and minor disturbances were reported from certain locations, these were promptly handled by the police and administration,” he said.
He further informed that no malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) occurred during the actual polling hours. “During the morning mock drills, a few machines showed issues and were replaced immediately. However, no such problems were reported once voting began,” he added.

The SEC has, however, ordered a re-poll at polling station 17/39 under the 17 Pekurjala-Janmejoynagar constituency in Sepahijala district following allegations of ballot unit tampering. The re-poll is scheduled for April 16.
Meanwhile, police sources confirmed a handful of law and order incidents during the day. In Boxanagar under Sepahijala district, miscreants reportedly hurled seven crude bombs, prompting police to fire five rounds of blank shots to disperse the crowd. The situation was later brought under control.
Incidents of political clashes were also reported from a few areas. In Tulamura, a vehicle belonging to BJP MLA Abhishek Debroy was allegedly vandalised. BJP MLA Jitendra Majumder was reportedly manhandled, while in Killa and Khowai, several BJP workers were allegedly attacked by Tipra Motha Party supporters using sticks and other weapons. The injured are currently undergoing treatment.
Additionally, a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate was vandalised in a separate incident, and one person who sustained injuries later succumbed.
Despite these isolated incidents, authorities maintained that the overall election process remained peaceful, with security forces continuing to monitor the situation closely.
