Aizawl, May 8: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi on Thursday Emphasized the need for expanding hydroelectric projects, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and agricultural exports in Mizoram during his visit to Kolasib district.
At an interactive meeting with district officials and heads of government departments, Gopi Emphasized the importance of developing additional hydroelectric projects to make Mizoram self-reliant in meeting its growing energy demands. He expressed concern over the limited number of Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state, noting that Mizoram currently has only one, and urged that the issue be actively pursued through Members of Parliament to improve access to quality education.
Acknowledging Mizoram’s fertile land and strong agricultural base, the minister stressed the need to strengthen efforts to export horticulture and farm produce to national and international markets. He also welcomed the gradual improvement in connectivity, particularly the expansion of railway infrastructure, which he said would significantly enhance the state’s development prospects.
Emphasising the role of women’s education in nation-building, Gopi encouraged greater participation of women in fields such as nursing. He added that maintaining high standards in foundational and school education is critical to ensuring that children can achieve their full potential.
Later, the minister visited an Oil Palm Processing Mill in Bukvannei near Kolasib, where he interacted with local palm farmers and discussed opportunities to boost agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
