Agartala, November 24, 2025: A 27-year-old resident of North Tripura sustained a gunshot injury on Monday morning during an anti-smuggling operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Brajendranagar sector.
The incident took place around 10:25 am near Border Fence Line pillars 138–139 and Gate No. 10, under the jurisdiction of Brajendranagar Border Outpost (BOP) of the BSF’s 97th Battalion, C-Company.
According to initial information, BSF personnel noticed suspicious activity near the fencing when an individual was allegedly attempting to cut the barbed-wire fence, reportedly with the intention of smuggling goods across the international border. When challenged by security personnel, the situation escalated, leading the BSF to fire a warning shot to stop the attempt.
The youth, identified as Akash Das, a resident of Ward No. 2 under Agnipasa Gram Panchayat and son of the late Gopal Das, sustained a bullet injury in the abdomen.
He was immediately taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where doctors confirmed the gunshot wound. Hospital sources stated that his condition is stable, though the bullet may still remain lodged inside. He has been referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for further specialized treatment.
The firing triggered brief tension in nearby border villages, though officials confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control.
Both BSF authorities and the local police have initiated separate inquiries into the incident.
Security agencies have intensified vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border amid increasing concerns over illegal immigration and smuggling activities. With rising political uncertainty in Bangladesh, trans-border crime and unauthorized crossings have emerged as growing challenges for enforcement agencies in Tripura.
