A week-long anti-narcotics operation conducted by Mizoram Police between April 10 and April 16 led to the seizure of heroin and methamphetamine valued at over Rs 7 crore across Khawzawl and Champhai districts. Eight individuals, including four Myanmar nationals, were arrested in connection with the cases.
The largest seizure took place on April 13 in Champhai, where police recovered 8 kg of methamphetamine estimated to be worth Rs 6.4 crore. Three individuals were apprehended in this operation, including two Myanmar nationals.
On the same day, authorities intercepted a vehicle along the Zokhawthar road and recovered 71 grams of heroin valued at Rs 14 lakh. The substance was concealed in six soap cases. The driver, identified as a Myanmar national, was taken into custody.
Earlier, on April 11, police seized 72 grams of heroin worth Rs 14.4 lakh at the Khankawn check gate in Champhai. The contraband was found hidden in a passenger’s luggage on a vehicle travelling towards Aizawl.
On April 12, 60 grams of heroin was recovered from a motorcyclist at Chalbawia junction. The individual was reportedly heading towards Aizawl at the time of interception.
In another case on April 10, 54 grams of heroin was seized from a commercial vehicle in Zokhawthar village near the Indo-Myanmar border. Following the seizure, police tracked the consignment to Aizawl and arrested a 38-year-old Myanmar woman suspected to be part of a distribution network.
On Thursday morning, Khawzawl police stopped a scooter at Neihdawn junction and recovered 104 grams of heroin valued at Rs 20.8 lakh. The drugs were concealed in nine soap cases inside a rucksack. A 25-year-old resident of Lunglei was arrested in connection with the case. The scooter and a mobile phone were also seized.
Police officials stated that the coordinated operations targeted cross-border drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
