Agartala, September 06, 2022 : Local populace along Tripura’s Rajnagar area in the western side of Agartala booked 16 Bangladeshi nationals on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday; and handed them over to the West Agartala Police station.
Speaking to mediapersons here, one of the locals said “We were aware that some foreigners were staying in one of the houses of Rajnagar area, but we did not find in which house they were staying. However, one of the locals may have contacted the police station and arrested them. Around 16-17 Bangladeshi nationals were held from the house of Rajib Miah, who is a driver by profession. They were staying for more than 15 days.”
Opposing the staying of foreign nationals here, the local said “Many people enter Tripura in an illegal way cutting the barbed-wire fence of the Indo-Bangla border and some amongst us are allowing to stay in their homes. These Bangladeshi nationals come here with an evil motive of holding thefts, robberies and even murders.”
“We suspect that the thefts took place in the recent past at Aralia and Baldakhal areas in the peripheries of Agartala city were done by them. Even a policeman Sudip Das’ was not spared. However, we did not understand why the house owner Rajib Miah was not arrested as he had allowed the Bangladeshi nationals to stay at his house illegally”, he added.
West Agartala police station staff informed that the arrested Bangladesh nationals were produced before the court and waiting for the order of police remand.
