The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has slammed the National People’s Party (NPP) for allegedly politicizing a government project.

“We vehemently reject any attempt by a political party in power, including the NPP, to politicise state development initiatives and mislead the populace by spreading their own party flags,” – informed the General Secretary of HYC – Roy Kupar Synrem.

Referring to pictures shared at the NPP’s official facebook page, he said that several flags of the NPP were placed at the venue where Chief Minister – Conrad Sangma had laid the foundation stone for the Nongstoin-Maweit road.

He claimed that even the makeshift tent used to host the VIPs and leaders of the party, were adorned with the colours of the NPP flags.

“The formal laying of foundation-stone and the alleged party gathering are both held in the same location. It is regrettable that the Chief Minister, who is tasked with representing the State as a whole and working impartially for the welfare of people, is promoting his political party on a platform provided by the government,” stated Synrem.

“The funds for the projects are from the public exchequer and not from any political party. Had it been from the private fund of a Political Party, then we have no issue at all. But taxpayers’ money is not meant for political advertising by any party. Bringing in party colors to any official program of the Government such as this means that whatever this Government is doing is only for political traction. More so the political traction of a certain party leading the Coalition government,” – he added.
