Agartala, April 01, 2024: In response to the devastating cyclonic storm that struck the state on March 30th and 31st, causing significant damage to infrastructure and homes, the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) has been mobilized to aid affected districts. Secretary of Revenue (Disaster Management) Department, Brijesh Pandey, announced the allocation of Rs 55.38 crores during a press conference.

The cyclone, categorized as a Nor’wester, wreaked havoc across seven districts, affecting 17 Sub-Divisions, excluding North Tripura District. According to official reports, a total of 800 houses bore the brunt of the storm, with 62 completely destroyed, 161 severely damaged, and 577 partially affected. The aftermath also saw 42 locations blocked due to fallen trees and infrastructure damage, resulting in one fatality in Udaipur Sub-Division.

Efforts to mitigate the impact and provide immediate relief have been swift, with District Disaster Management Authorities swiftly implementing response measures in line with Election Commission of India’s Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Guidelines.

Teams have been deployed to clear debris, assess damages, and restore essential services, with preliminary assessments already underway. Interim relief has been extended to over 50 affected families, with plans to cover remaining households within the next few days. The restoration of power lines, clearance of road blockades, and provision of shelter to displaced families are top priorities.

A relief camp has been established in Teliamura RD Block under Khowai District, offering shelter to seven families. Additionally, IMD’s weather forecasts and nowcasts are being disseminated to the public through the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), ensuring timely information reaches those in need.

Authorities have assured that all necessary preparations have been made to handle any future emergencies, with a focus on preemptive measures ahead of the Southwest Monsoon. Continuous coordination between State and District Emergency Operation Centres ensures round-the-clock readiness to address any eventualities.
