Agartala, September 03, 2024: In a significant move toward lasting peace and stability in the Northeast, a Memorandum of Settlement will be signed on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in New Delhi. The agreement, which will involve the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and representatives from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), marks a pivotal moment in the region’s ongoing peace process. The event will be graced by the presence of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, along with the Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, and senior officials from both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of Tripura.
“The signing of this Memorandum of Settlement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to peace in the Northeast,” stated a senior official from the Ministry of Home Affairs. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, we have tirelessly worked to bring an end to the cycle of violence and conflict that has plagued this region for decades.”
Since taking office, Prime Minister Modi’s administration has prioritized the development and stabilization of the Northeast. The signing of 12 crucial agreements aimed at fostering peace and prosperity in the region stands as a cornerstone of this initiative. Of these, three are directly related to Tripura, where decades of insurgency have taken a heavy toll on both the populace and the region’s development.
“Through these agreements, nearly 10,000 individuals have renounced violence and returned to the mainstream,” the official added, emphasizing the transformative impact of the government’s efforts. “This is not just about signing papers; it’s about creating a sustainable and peaceful future for the people of the Northeast.”
The upcoming accord is expected to further cement the progress made in the region, as the Government of India continues to fulfill its commitment to a developed Northeast—one that is free from extremism, violence, and conflict.
