Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the passing of esteemed educator Brother Eric Steve D’Souza on October 13. Affectionately known as “Dasu,” Brother D’Souza left an indelible mark on the education sector, teaching Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan during his formative years at St. Columba’s School in New Delhi.

Brother D’Souza’s illustrious career spanned prestigious institutions across India, including St. Edmund’s School in Shillong, Meghalaya, where he spent many years. He was revered for his innovative teaching methods, incorporating visual imagery, mind-mapping, and humor into his lessons. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, founding Providence School in Meghalaya to provide quality education to underprivileged children.

Throughout his career, Brother D’Souza taught at schools run by the Christian Brothers congregation in West Bengal, New Delhi, Mangalore, Assam, and Meghalaya. His compassion and dedication touched the lives of students from diverse backgrounds.

Chief Minister Sangma expressed his condolences, highlighting Brother D’Souza’s enduring legacy. “May Brother D’Souza’s inspiring legacy bring comfort to his family, the Christian Brothers congregation, and the countless lives he transformed through education and compassion. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
