Agartala, October 22, 2024: In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Tripura has arrested five individuals, including three Rohingya and two Bangladeshi nationals, for illegally entering the state. The arrest was made at Agartala railway station, according to officials.
“Based on secret information, we received news that Rohingya and Bangladeshi citizens were planning to leave for foreign countries through Agartala railway station,” said Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the GRP police station. “A joint operation was conducted by GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the Border Security Force (BSF), leading to the arrest of these individuals.”
The arrested individuals have reportedly admitted during police interrogation that they entered Tripura illegally. According to Das, the Rohingya nationals were planning to travel to Hyderabad, while the Bangladeshis were headed for Mumbai.
Despite a tight vigil maintained by the BSF along the border, the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into Tripura remains a concern. “The BSF is maintaining strict surveillance, but we are still seeing illegal entries through various routes,” Das added.
A case has been filed against the arrested individuals under relevant legal provisions. “They will be presented before the court on Tuesday, and we will seek police remand for further investigation,” Das confirmed.
