Guwahati, Jan 7: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that Navy divers have been called in to help local authorities in the rescue operation of nine laborers trapped inside a coal mine in Dima Hasao district. The water level inside the mine has risen to nearly 100 feet, complicating the efforts to reach the workers.

The divers are being flown in from Visakhapatnam and are expected to arrive shortly to join the rescue team on the ground. The move follows an assessment by local authorities who have been working to free the trapped workers. The operation remains ongoing, with officials focused on ensuring the safe recovery of those inside the mine.
