A specialized rescue team from Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has been deployed to Assam to assist in the ongoing rescue operations at a flooded coal mine in Umrangso. The team, consisting of five experts, arrived on January 8 via a C-130 Hercules aircraft to support efforts to rescue workers trapped inside the 3-Kilo Coal Quarry.

The tragedy occurred on January 5 when a sudden influx of water flooded the mine, trapping around 15 workers. The water breached the walls of the quarry, submerging the shafts and tunnels.

To aid in the rescue, WCL has brought a massive submersible pump capable of removing 500 gallons of water per minute from a height of 150 metres, along with a complex cable network, starters, and other necessary equipment to assist in the operation.
