A joint operation by Manipur Police, 37 Assam Rifles, the Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate led to the destruction of a 4-acre poppy plantation in the Haopi Mollen hill range under Sangaikot Police Station, Churachandpur District, on January 8, 2025. During the operation, 10 poppy pods were seized.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh lauded the effort, stating, “While no arrests were made, 10 poppy pods were seized, and formalities were completed at Sangaikot Police Station. The yield, estimated at 12 kg if harvested, highlights the importance of such actions in the War on Drugs.”

An FIR has been registered, and authorities are working to identify and take legal action against the cultivators. The operation reflects the government’s continued commitment to eradicating drug cultivation and trafficking in the state.
