As part of National Road Safety Month 2025, the Directorate of Transport, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), conducted a one-day media sensitization program at Loktak Hall, Manipur Press Club.
The event saw the participation of key officials, including Michael Achom, IRS, Secretary of Transport; Nivedita Lairenlakpam, IAS, Transport Director; Khogendra Khomdram, EGM President; Bijoy Kakchingtabam, AMWJU President; and SP Traffic Police, Pramesh Arambam.
SP Pramesh Arambam emphasized the critical importance of road safety, urging citizens to avoid speeding caused by haste or work-related stress. He highlighted that wearing helmets significantly reduces the risk of head injuries and fatalities in accidents, while seat belts are equally vital for both drivers and passengers.
He also discussed the e-challan system, explaining how electronic fines can be paid online via echallan.parivahan.gov.in. He warned that unpaid challans within 90 days would be referred to a virtual court for penalty enforcement. Additionally, he assured attendees that complaints regarding incorrect e-challans could be resolved at the Traffic Police SP Office in MG Avenue.
The program concluded with a call for increased public awareness and strict adherence to traffic rules to ensure safer roads and minimize accidents.
