Mizoram Governor Celebrates Foundation Day Of Manipur, Meghalaya, And Tripura

Aizawl, 29th January 2025: Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), hosted the Foundation Day celebrations of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura today at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, as part of the Union Government’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative. Although the official Foundation Day for these states is observed on 21st January, the event was rescheduled to 29th January due to certain circumstances.

In his address, Governor Singh extended greetings to the attendees and emphasized the importance of celebrating the Foundation Days of other states to promote unity and highlight India’s cultural diversity. He also spoke about the vision of “Vikshit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, stressing the vital role that northeastern states play in achieving national development. The Governor reiterated that peace and stability in the region are essential for the sustained progress of the country.

The Governor encouraged the youth to engage in fostering cultural understanding and to uphold a cosmopolitan outlook. He also appreciated the speakers and cultural performers for showcasing the rich traditions of their respective states.

Pu Zonun Thara, ADC (P) to the Governor, explained the purpose of the event, and video messages from the Governors of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura were played. Dr. Rebecca Angom, Associate Professor at Pachhunga University College (PUC) representing Manipur, Premika Blah, Chief Manager at SBI representing Meghalaya, and Dr. Achinta Badya, Assistant Professor at Mizoram University (MZU) representing Tripura, spoke on behalf of their states. Students from the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), Aizawl, also performed traditional cultural dances and music from the three states.

Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura were granted full statehood on 21st January 1972, following their integration with India in 1949 and 1956, and the formation of Meghalaya as an autonomous state in 1969.

The ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative aims to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen the bond of unity between different states and Union Territories. The Foundation Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan in Mizoram have been organized since June 2023 as part of this initiative.
