Sikkim: Over 200 Students Participate In Pakyong’s 2K ‘Run For Unity’ To Celebrate 50 Years Of Statehood

Gangtok, May 9: To celebrate 50 years of statehood, the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, in collaboration with the Education Department of Pakyong District, organized a 2K ‘Run for Unity’ event in Pakyong on Friday.

The event saw the participation of over 200 students from various schools in the district. It was flagged off from Pakyong Bazar by District Collector Pakyong, along with the chief guest of the event, Rohan Agawane. Chief Education Officer Narayan Mishra, officials from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, and local residents also attended the event.

In his address, DC Pakyong highlighted the run as a symbol of unity and diversity, marking the 50th anniversary of statehood. He encouraged all participants to embrace the spirit of togetherness while enjoying the event.

Robert Lepcha, Assistant Director of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, announced that a Unity Run would also be held in Gangtok on May 16, with selected students from Pakyong District representing the region.

The non-competitive run covered a distance of 2 kilometers, passing through Pakyong Bazar, Karthok Road, and concluding at the airport viewpoint above Pakyong Bazar Junior High School. Students also demonstrated their Taekwondo skills as part of the event.
