Agartala, April 22, 2025: In a significant move towards enhancing Tripura’s railway connectivity, Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb held an elaborate meeting with Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday discussing a host of critical issues pertaining to infrastructure development, modernization, and railway expansion in the state.

During the meeting, MP Deb strongly advocated for the conversion of the existing single-line rail track from Badarpur to Sabroom into a double line, emphasizing the growing demand for efficient rail transportation in the region. “We had detailed discussions regarding the urgent need for double-laning of key railway routes like Lamding-Sabroom and Agartala-Sabroom, electrification of tracks, and introduction of Vande Bharat trains up to Guwahati,” said Deb.

Among other major proposals were the launch of long-distance express trains connecting Agartala to Jammu, Puri, and Gaya. The expansion is expected to boost both tourism and trade opportunities for Tripura.

The discussion also focused on the modernization of Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme, with a vision to uplift passenger amenities and overall infrastructure. MP Deb further urged the Railway Minister to develop Badharghat station into a world-class facility, enhance the Jirania Yard and explore the possibility of establishing an industrial rail link to strengthen the state’s logistics network.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reportedly responded positively to the proposals. “He sincerely acknowledged the importance of these demands and assured that appropriate measures will be taken on a priority basis,” said Deb, expressing gratitude for the Minister’s support.
