Nagaon, May 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated the redeveloped Haibargaon Railway Station in Assam’s Nagaon district under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was present at the station during the local event.
Haibargaon is the first railway station in Assam to be redeveloped and inaugurated under the ABSS. It is among 50 stations in the state selected for redevelopment. The project was completed at an estimated cost of Rs 15.85 crore.
The inauguration was part of a nationwide event covering 103 redeveloped stations across India. The upgraded Haibargaon station features modern passenger amenities, improved accessibility, and architectural elements reflecting local culture.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to redevelop more than 1,300 railway stations across the country in a phased manner, focusing on infrastructure improvement and enhanced passenger experience.
Northeast Frontier Railway officials stated that Haibargaon’s redevelopment marks a significant step in railway infrastructure enhancement in Assam, with 49 more stations in the state lined up for similar upgrades.
