Imphal, May 22: Justice Kempaiah Somashekar was sworn in as the ninth Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on Thursday. The oath ceremony took place at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal, administered by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

Justice Somashekar was appointed Chief Justice by the President of India on May 20, 2025. He previously served as a judge at the Karnataka High Court.
The ceremony was attended by judges of the Manipur High Court, the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, Director General of Police, senior officials from civil, police, military, and judicial departments, along with representatives from various Bar Associations.
Born on September 15, 1963, Justice Somashekar began his judicial career as a District and Sessions Judge in June 1998. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court in November 2016 and became a Permanent Judge in November 2018.
Justice Somashekar brings considerable experience to his new role as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
