Agartala, May 16, 2026: Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated a modern State Data Centre at the Visvesvaraya Complex in Kunjaban, marking a significant milestone in Tripura’s push towards advanced and technology-driven water resource management.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister stated that the initiative, developed by the Public Works (Water Resources) Department, would enhance transparency, efficiency, and real-time monitoring of groundwater levels, river flow patterns, and flood management systems. He said the technology-enabled facility would help improve public services while strengthening the state’s capacity to manage natural resources effectively.
The newly launched centre will function as a central hub for data collection, monitoring, and analysis, enabling authorities to take informed decisions regarding water conservation, irrigation development, and disaster preparedness. Officials said the facility would also aid in formulating long-term plans for the sustainable management and utilization of water resources across the state.
Dr. Saha observed that the project reflects the government’s commitment to adopting modern technology for effective governance and public welfare, ensuring better infrastructure and improved services for citizens.
The Chief Minister also praised the extensive contributions of the Water Resources Department across Tripura. He mentioned that irrigation coverage has already reached nearly 1.5 lakh hectares of agricultural land out of the state’s total 2.55 lakh hectares through various departmental initiatives.
He further appreciated the department’s continuous efforts in flood control and water management, noting that its role has been instrumental in protecting people and farmlands during flood situations. According to him, the department’s work has significantly contributed to the state’s resilience and overall development.
The inauguration of the State Data Centre is being seen as a major step towards environmentally sustainable and technology-oriented resource management, reinforcing Tripura’s emergence as a model for integrated water planning in the region.
