Agartala, June 23, 2025: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has extended heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for swiftly sanctioning Rs 3 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) towards the kidney transplant treatment of a Tripura resident Mousumi Saha.

Saha (43), a resident of Mahashakti Sangha, Jogendranagar in Agartala is suffering from chronic kidney disease stage 5 and requires urgent renal transplantation. Upon learning of her condition and her plea for financial help, Biplab Deb promptly forwarded her application to the Prime Minister’s Office along with supporting documents.

In a letter dated May 26, 2025, Deb personally requested maximum possible assistance from the PMNRF for Saha’s treatment, which is being carried out at the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. The hospital estimated the treatment cost at Rs 11.30 lakh.

The Prime Minister’s Office, through an official communication dated June 17, 2025, sanctioned Rs 3 lakh for the procedure. The grant, cleared in principle, is aimed at partially defraying the expenses for the transplant. The PMO instructed the hospital to handle the financial processing, with reimbursement restricted to 50% of the incurred expenses or the sanctioned amount—whichever is lower.

Expressing his gratitude, Biplab Deb stated that the prompt response from the Prime Minister reflects the central government’s continued commitment to supporting the common people of Tripura in times of dire medical need.

The family of Mousumi Saha also conveyed their appreciation for the assistance extended by the MP and the Prime Minister, which they say has brought hope at a critical juncture.
