Jiribam Municipal Council has been honoured with the “Most Promising Town” award in the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25, held in New Delhi. The event was graced by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar.
The award, announced by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD), Government of Manipur, recognises Jiribam’s remarkable achievements in urban cleanliness and sanitation. Among 27 Urban Local Bodies in Manipur, Jiribam emerged as the top-performing town, ranking first among 21 small towns (with a population below 20,000) in the North Eastern Region. At the national level, it secured the 174th position out of 2,035 towns in the same category.
Additionally, Jiribam is certified as a ‘Garbage Free City’ (GFC) with a 3-Star rating and has achieved ODF++ status, reflecting its commitment to sanitation and waste management.
The Manipur delegation to the award ceremony was led by RK Dinesh Singh, Principal Secretary (MAHUD), along with Director Ngangom Uttam Singh, Chairperson of Jiribam Municipal Council S. Shanti Devi, and Executive Officer Moirangthem Surjit, who jointly received the award on behalf of the State.
Following the ceremony, the delegation participated in a high-level brainstorming session with the Union Minister and other state representatives to evaluate the progress of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and discuss strategies to enhance implementation and innovation in urban development.
The Directorate of MAHUD congratulated the people of Jiribam for the national recognition and reaffirmed its commitment to replicating such success stories across other urban areas in Manipur.
